Yes, this is the most familiar spot in Yogyakarta: Taman Sari Watercastle! Taman Sari Watercastle is an ancient building from hundreds years ago. This building is a site of a former royal garden of the Sultanate of Yogyakarta. It is located about 2-3 kilometers from Keraton Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Palace). The name itself comes from two words; ‘taman’ which means garden, and ‘sari’ which means beautiful flower.
Taman Sari used to be a bathing complex for the King (Sultan) and Queen and all princesses. It had a giant artificial lake surrounded by ancient buildings and gardens. The ancient building itself consisted of long tunnels and big rooms, and also the most famous underground mosque. This underground mosque was used by Yogyakarta citizens in the 18th century. The center of it all, a platform where the four staircases meet.
The ancient underground mosque is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Maybe because it is majestic, ancient, and beautifully mystical. I love the atmosphere around Taman Sari. It somehow makes me wonder and imagine the things that used to happen in this place.
Being a ‘tourist’ in Taman Sari, I choose to wear something casual, with a lil touch of vintage. Picking out my turtleneck top and my overall skirt, all in nude colors! Of course, what could be better than pairing them with my KELLY BROWN? Rolled my hair up, and ready to explore.
